Meet Duncan!

For the first time since acquiring African black-footed penguins in 2006, Caldwell Zoo would like to introduce Duncan, our new penguin chick! Our little boy hatched on November 19th and is the son of Mom Adasha and Dad Taz.

Because baby penguins cannot swim until after their first molt, we want to be very certain that our new little boy does not fall into the water before he is ready. To protect him from any watery accidents, Duncan was pulled from the penguin exhibit, and is currently being hand raised by our keeper staff.

As soon as he replaces his downy feathers with waterproof juvenile feathers, Duncan will begin swimming lessons with his keepers. Once we are certain of the little guy’s ability in the water, he will rejoin our colony on exhibit.
