Family Night Hikes

Put away your screens for the evening, and get your family out exploring nature! Family Night Hikes are meant to be fun experiences that promote family bonding. Join our Education Staff on Friday, May 3 from 6-10 pm, as you enjoy the Caldwell Zoo after hours with all members of your family ages 6 and up. You will walk away excited about nature and inspired to take action to protect all things wild. We must have at least 15 participants, so encourage your friends to sign up with you! The evening includes dinner, a snack, activities and crafts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our educators will open the gate to the bus parking lot at 5:50 pm. It will remain open for check-in until 6:15 pm.

Due to the limitations of facilitating programs after regular zoo hours, we will not be able to accommodate late arrivals. Once the gate closes at 6:15, it will remain closed. Please ensure that you arrive on time so that your family may enjoy our evening!

Yes, we will provide a pizza dinner for everyone registered, along with a snack later in the evening.

Our Family Night Hikes will have between 15 and 30 participants, accompanied by 2 staff facilitators.

Yes, many of our programs will have the opportunity for up-close encounters with our ambassador animals. With many, touching is permitted if the situation allows. For the safety of our animals, encounters may be ended at any time if program expectations are not being followed. For the safety of all, direct contact with other exhibit animals is not possible.

It is expected that all families will remain for the duration of the program. If there is an existing conflict that will prevent you from remaining through the end of the program, please consider registering for a different evening. In the event of an emergency that requires you to leave early, your family will be escorted out of the zoo.
Programs will occur rain or shine! Please come in the appropriate clothing. If anyone is not dressed for the weather, zoo staff has the right to send them home. In case of lightning, all activities will move indoors.

No, you do not have to have children in order to participate in the Family Night Hikes. However, please be aware that activities are geared toward families with children.

We regularly host participants with allergies and do our best to accommodate their needs. Please make sure to notify your instructor at check-in of specific allergies. We cannot guarantee that our classrooms are nut free.

Caldwell Zoo does not provide refunds for cancelled registrations.

Reservations are only valid for the date booked. Family night hikes are non-refundable; however the program can be rescheduled when possible (as long as the request is made two weeks in advance of the date of the program). All programs are subject to availability. Be sure to read our family night hike information thoroughly. Caldwell Zoo has the right to cancel these programs at any time without prior notice for full refund. Participants should arrive 15 minutes before the start of program. Due to the nature of our Family Night Hike program, late participants cannot be accommodated and your reservation will be forfeited with no refund. If you or a member of your party jeopardizes the welfare of an animal or the safety of anyone in the group you can be removed from the program with no refund. All participants must be 6 and older.
