Caldwell Zoo Welcomes Reticulated Giraffe to Conservation Program. Young giraffe Freddy joins efforts to protect endangered species.
Caldwell Zoo is thrilled to announce the arrival of Freddy, a young, reticulated giraffe from Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, marking an important step in the Zoo’s ongoing conservation efforts to protect this endangered species.
Freddy’s arrival is part of a coordinated Species Survival Plan recommended by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, aimed at maintaining a healthy and genetically diverse population of giraffes. As giraffe populations continue to decline in the wild, partnerships like this play a critical role in ensuring their long-term survival.
“The decision to move Freddy to Caldwell Zoo comes from a recommendation made by the Giraffe Species Survival Plan,” said Scotty Stainback, Curator of Mammals. “This is a win for all of us involved in giraffe conservation. By carefully following breeding guidelines, we can maintain a healthy genetic stock of these animals. We’re very thankful for our partners at Fossil Rim, and we’re proud to do our part in protecting these endangered giraffes.”
Freddy is getting adjusted to his new home and giraffe family. He’s doing well and will be on public habitat soon, so that you can come and introduce yourselves. We’ll make an announcement once he’s makes his public entrance!
